What is the ingredient list?

Organic class A maple from Canada. Himalayan Pink salt.

Why Maple?

We looked at all the real-food options and maple checked every box for endurance fuel:

  • Digestibility - easy to digest by everyone
  • Carb ratio - balanced (1:1)
  • Consistency - liquid, smooth, and fibre-free
  • Energy curve - quick energy with a sustained release

Maple also contains a range of naturally occurring electrolytes, minerals and antioxidants.

Why did we start SAP?

We were tired of forcing down artificial gels. We wanted a natural but high-performance option so we could fuel our training and feel good doing it.

What are the nutrition facts?

Per SAP, there is: 100 calories 25 grams of carbs 0g of fat 0g of protein 0g of fibre 152mg of sodium A variety of other minerals and antioxidants in smaller amounts

Can I use something I would put on pancakes as fuel?

Yes — real maple syrup is pure, natural fuel. It’s packed with easily absorbed carbohydrates that deliver quick and steady energy, making it perfect for endurance training and not just pancakes.

What is the difference between SAP and artificial gels?

Both gels and SAP aim to provide quick, easy to digest energy.

  • Gels use carbs made in a lab (maltodextrin + fructose) to provide you with energy. Water, gelling agents, thickeners, preservatives, digestive helpers, flavours… are then added to create a ‘gel’ that is suppose to be easy-to-digest.
  • SAP uses real food (Maple and himalayan salt) to provide you with quick energy that is naturally easy to digest and needs nothing more to get the same benefits.

How do I use SAP?

SAP is versatile

Before workouts: for quick energy in the morning or before your after session. During workouts: every 15-30 minutes depending on intensity. After workouts: to refuel and kickstart recovery. Solo: enjoy SAP as is. On food: drizzle SAP on your pre workout fuel like toast and post workout sweet treats. In coffee: rocket fuel.

SAP is 1:1 carb ratio. Why is it not 0.8:1 like some gels?

Maple naturally breaks down to a ~1:1 glucose-to-fructose ratio — and we don’t think that’s something to “fix.” The 0.8:1 ratio (a bit more glucose) is designed for athletes pushing very high carb intakes — around 90g+ per hour — where slightly less fructose may ease digestion. Maple’s 1:1 ratio actually allows the highest theoretical carb uptake, but in real-world use, both perform almost the same. If you’re fuelling under 90g carbs/hour, the difference is only a few percent. Use what digests well and works for you.

What is the flavour of SAP?

A smooth and neutral maple flavour that isn't overpowering. There are no flavours added to SAP. SAP’s flavour comes from it’s 2 ingredients; organic class A maple and Himalayan salt. SAP is sweet, but the natural kind of sweetness that doesn’t leave you with a weird aftertaste.

What should I use? SAP or Gels?

Use what works best for you. The goal is to fuel properly. Choose what you enjoy using — not force down — because that’s what helps you stay consistent and perform your best.

Why not honey?

We love honey, don't get us wrong. It's just that maple is superior as endurance fuel due to it's digestibility, consistency, and carb ratio. Honey is on the FODMAP scale, thicker, and higher in free fructose.

Is SAP vegan?

YES

Salt provides sodium. Sodium is crucial for balancing hydration, keeping your muscles working, and stoping cramps. During exercise you loose sodium through sweat. We've added it to support your performance.

Why 152mg of sodium?

Enough to help without being too much. Everyone looses sodium at different rates. At 3 SAPs per hour it offers 456mg. Additional sodium can be supplemented if needed.

Can I use both SAP and Gels?

Yes. Whether you are training or racing - alternating fuel sources can be a good strategy. Do what feels good and works for you.

How many SAPs should I use during my workout?

It depends on how hard you’re going and your target carbs / hour. As a general rule of thumb:

  • Races or intense sessions: 3 or more SAPs per hour (75–90g carbs)
  • Moderate training: about 1 every 30 minutes (~50g carbs/hour)
  • Easier efforts: 1 every 30–60 minutes (25–50g carbs/hour)

For example, on an easy long run that lasts 75-90 one should aim for 2-3 SAPs throughout the session. This can be split up however feels good.

What is the difference between SAP and Gels?

Both gels and SAP aim to provide quick, easy to digest energy.

  • Gels use artificial carbs (maltodextrin + fructose powder) to provide you with energy. Water, gelling agents, thickeners, preservatives, digestive helpers, flavours and other ingredients are then added to create a ‘gel’.
  • SAP uses real food (Maple and Himalayan salt) to provide you with quick energy that is naturally easy to digest and doesn't need extra ingredients to get the benefits.

What is your philosophy and mission?

Use real food and the least amount of ingredients to deliver the best performance so that athletes from all backgrounds can do more of what brings them good energy.
